Messenger of Peace Project

To find out more about what Messenger of Peace is, click the link below.

We are partnering up with a local family from Bluewater Elementary, the Gillman's, and through them The Global Orphan Project. We will be collecting shoes and socks for the Leogane Orphanage in Haiti. This was the place of the big 2010 Haiti Earthquake. As a result of that earthquake the orphan population doubled.

What the boys need to do: Bring in new and gently used shoes and new socks. Ask their friends, family and neighbors to donate also. Ask their friends at school to bring in shoes for their project. This is THE BOYS service project and they need to have an ownership to it.

All shoes and socks need to be collected by the December Pack Meeting (Dec 15th). The Den that collects the most shoes will get a pizza party

Here is what the Gillman's are doing. We are just donating shoes and they are going to deliver them to the orphanage for us in January at NO COST TO US!!

Who: New Members to Cub Scout Pack 553
What: School Night Round Up
When:  August 29, 2013 / Time: 6:30-8:00 pm
Where: Bluewater Elementary
Multi Purpose Room
FMI Contact:
Tara Carroll 865-8159
As each school year begins, local elementary schools put on a "Cub Scout Roundup" for new scout recruits. This is the time to sign boys up to begin the scout year. Information will be presented on the pack and individual dens.
If you miss your School Night, don't worry – it’s never too late to start down the Scouting Trail! Call the number above for information.

This will be a night to introduce you to cub scouting and get you signed up and ready to start off the new year by fitting you into a den with 6-10 other boys in the same grade and providing different stations to guide you through the sign up process. Stations will be as follows:
Registration (Youth & Adult BSA-$20, Pack553-$32, Boys Life Magazine-$16): Here you will fill out the proper paperwork for your scout and yourself as an adult leader and pay the proper dues (bring your check book please). Scholarships are available through the Gulf Coast Council. No scout will be turned away due to financial constraints.
T-Shirt and Uniform Information: Purchase a Pack T-shirt for $10 and learn about uniform requirements and proper placement of patches and insignia. Some Pack 553 patches may be available for purchase while supplies last. Order forms are attached and more information about ordering uniforms is on our website.
Volunteer/Leadership Opportunities: Our Scouting Family program is run by volunteers, parents, and adults. There will be numerous opportunities for you to help out your den and the pack. This year we will all be required to take a short training class on Youth Protection. This is a National Boy Scouts of America sanctioned and required class that will ensure the safety of all our boys. It is an online course that takes 30-40 minutes.
Gulf Coast Council Training
Cub Scout Family Camp sign up: Twice a year families have the opportunity to attend Family Camp (FamCamp) at Spanish Trail Scout Reservation. This year our pack will be attending the FamCamp from October 18-20. Pre-registration is required to ensure a spot to camp with the rest of the pack. Each weekend event includes a Camp Fire Night. All scouters and their families gather together for a night of story-telling, skits and fun. You can either stay overnight or come for the day. The weekend is centered on activities which give your scout an opportunity to achieve several badge requirements and offer fun activities such as canoeing, fishing (bring your own gear), hiking, bb guns, archery, leather working, beading and much more. Please plan on joining our pack for this fun filled family event.
Popcorn Sales (brochures will be available): We begin each scout year with our Scouting Popcorn sales drive. The money our pack receives supports our pack directly with all the activities badges, patches, etc that keeps family’s from paying for them. We have an annual pack operating budget of about $3000. We can do other fund raisers in the year as needed, but popcorn sales additionally supports our scouting district and council for all the large camps as well as bigger programs for the boys across the county and state. Scouting is a national program and we are all a part of something much bigger.

Pack 553 Popcorn
Our pack is sponsored by Christ Our Redeemer Church (White Point in Bluewater Bay) and we welcome families of all faiths for membership in the pack. The first pack meeting will be at Christ Our Redeemer on Sunday, 15 Sept at 4:00 in the Parish Hall. The event will be an ice cream social and will give the boys a chance to meet all of the boys in their den and pack.
There will also be a fun slideshow to display the many activities we participated in last year.
We hope to see you there!

New Pack Website - Welcome!

posted May 17, 2011, 12:32 PM by Pack 553 Niceville, FL   [ updated Nov 14, 2013, 5:21 PM ]

You will notice some changes in the way we go about Pack business over the next several months and we are pretty sure they will be changes for the better.  Our hope is that you can (eventually) rely on the website as your main source of information about our Scout program.

In the near future, our leaders will learn to post stories and update their calendars and some other nifty tricks to keep everyone at the top of their game. Please give them some leeway as the changes go into effect and everything starts smoothing out.  It might get a little rocky before it gets smooth.

We think you are going to like the changes.  This website is already packed with features and when we get in a groove at the leadership level it will be even better.

If you'd like to contribute let us know.  You can start at the "Strong Leaders" section.
