Scouts and their families will assist the park with the Longleaf pine Restoration Project. We will remove invasive species (mostly the shortleaf pine seedlings) from the restoration area. A park naturalist will discuss the importance of the project and how it will lead to the conservation of endangered forest floor plant species.

Things to wear/bring:
  • Long pants
  • Water, water, water
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Sun screen
  • Work Gloves
  • Bug repellent (containing at least 25% DEET)

Notes: Participating in the conservation project is NOT a requirement for rank advancement. If your scout/family can not attend, Pack 553 plans to offer another similar Pack level project this year or next. Also, this project fulfills one of the requirement for the recognition. Please see scouting handbook for all rank specific requirements to earn the conservation award. (Tiger Cubs do not earn the World Conservation AwardWolves pg. 226 ; Bears pg. 282; Webelos pg.70)
